"We exist to win premierships"
I have NO probs with Choko at all. In fact I believe him to be the greatest coach in the game today on talent. Many clubs would like him.
You have to remember coaches who are outshining him have awesome assistant coaches (ours will be with experience). This is because they have a very capable administration behind them who has put their clubs into a financial position where they can afford the luxury extras
eg. Have you seen the amount of physios on Collingwood’s bench?
Choko just tries to do too much himself. He should be given the ability to concentrate on winning a flag. But instead he has to do everyone’s job for them, eg. From finding new ways of funding to growing our supporter base through international markets.
Make no mistake, the other clubs that are doing well are establishing international off shore market mining while our admin keeps trying to get more from the local small pie.
In doing this they have unfortunately put so much effort toward a non traditional Port supporter that they have simply "brought" market share from those of the other side of town mentality, unnecessarily at the expense of the traditional supporter. Aren’t we all feeling this?
When I was in Adelaide back in the Bucky days, I'd go to training and if anyone from the club was also watching they'd always acknowledge you. Now they go out of there way to avoid eye contact so as not to get "caught" talking to us "customers".
Sadly I can take someone to Collingwood’s equivalent of our Port Club and I guarantee if Eddie or anyone significant walks through they will nod at you be you corporate or NOT.
The players are no longer expected after games to meet the people. Admin has deemed this unnecessary. Under the traditional port style admin, they wanted to meet the people. Most had grown up with us. Don’t even try to tell me they have to go home to recover and prepare. Most will be out somewhere the night after a game to unwind (unless injured).
This brings me to my main point;
Our administration has (from my experience with them) an attitude that is more concerned with cutting out the workload than doing whatever it takes.
If anyone from the club reads this please accept my apology for the generalisation, there are many of you who have your heart in the right place, however you are not the leaders.
I am referring to the head of commercial operations for a constant disregard for our tradition and our CEO for allowing this attitude to propagate.
I haven’t seen any examples of these people going out of their way to raise the bar in any of their day to day responsibilities. Sadly I have a list of examples of underperformance and detrimental behaviour. Excuses rule the day.
When Bucky was leading the team, if someone from accounts for example had a heap of work to finish the attitude seemed to be simply hey, lets stay back as a team and get this nailed.
Now if someone is behind on a few things it seems you should never do something today which you can leave until tomorrow, leave it long enough and it will be forgotten and never take responsibility for anything.
I highlight this because every AFL footballer I have ever had the opportunity to question has always said the same thing. "The attitude of the admin of a club has a significant effect on the on-field performance and attitude around the club."
The current administration has eroded my belief in my worth to our club to the point where I as a member have been referred to as a customer - wtf?
I AM NOT A CUSTOMER. Buying a membership is not a choice it’s my life.
I am a member and YOU work for me at MY club. Have you purchased a membership?
The members of our club used to hold their heads up high. We don’t need what happened on Sunday to be erased by wins to do this again. Remember where we came from and our greatest history in AFL football and start generating a winning feeling by holding your heads high until we do it again.
As I can’t be present at the members info night I'd really appreciate it if someone who may share my thoughts to remind our CEO and head of commercial operations of this. Its time the members took back some control and got this club back to where we are supposed to be.
It is OUR responsibility, as it was for our members before us who created this incredible club.
I’d like to see an immediate focus on turning around how many interstate memberships have we lost as the admin believes its too hard to look after them? I'd like to see a report of paid up members in 2004 from interstate compared to today. I can tell you I am aware of many who have given up thinking they aren't valued or wanted at all any more.
For those of you who don’t know me I am also an AFL member and consider myself a student of the game. I attend up to 4 live games a week. I have secondary rotating memberships with the other clubs to learn as much as possible about how the others go about their business.
This gives me tremendous access to people who are involved in the game. I am a company director and time and time again I am questioned about what I think of the current leadership of the admin of our club by some very big names of our game. They clearly have some sense of doubt.
btw, don’t get me wrong, there is no place I'd rather be than in the privileged position of amongst the outer Army, Cheer squad, Supporter Groups at a game. I have done countless hours of volunteer work for us and pamfc and wouldn’t trade it for anything!
If we are to change the current climate we do need to look more laterally at the picture and as members get things moving in the right direction as our predecessors once did.
C yas on Sunday :).
PS. ALBYs offspring have been
planted at the "G". they have gone in off the centre wing of the southern side :).

Port Adelaide Football Club Creed
We the players and management of the Port Adelaide Football Club
accept the heritage which players and administrators have passed
down to us; in doing so we do not intend to rest in idleness but
shall strive with all our power to further this club's unexcelled
achievements.
To do this we believe -
There is great merit and noble achievements
in
winning a premiership.
To be successful, each of us must be active,
aggressive and devoted to this cause.
We agree that success is well
within our reach and have confidence that each member of both team
and management will suffer personal sacrifices for the common end.
Also we know that should we, after striving to our utmost and giving
everything, still not be successful, our efforts will become a
further part of this club's enviable tradition.
Finally, we concede there can be honour in defeat, but to each of
us, honourable defeat of our club and guernsey can come only after
human endeavour on the playing field is completely exhausted.

Any club worth its salt will clean out its no-hopers - from the doorman, to the head trainer to the captain.
Keeping no-hopers in these positions, or any other position, is the mark of the non-successful club. You’ve got to weed out people who breed an atmosphere of non-professionalism.
They’re there for the bloody joke, for the social life, for the prestige. They’re not there to win.
